What is a Sleep Study?
The medical term for a sleep study is polysomnogram. The purpose of the sleep study is to measure the quality of your sleep by recording your body’s bioelectrical activities. A typical sleep study measures the following:
- Brain waives
- Eye movements
- Heart rate
- Leg movements
- Airflow
- Breathing effort
- Oxygen saturation
Much of the data collected is done through electrodes placed on the body. These electrodes are non-invasive and cause no pain. They are applied with a simple adhesive that can be easily removed with soap and warm water.
